Protective Equipment

PPE, or personal protective equipment, is used every day around the world. Equipment includes latex gloves, KN95 masks, protective eyewear, and in some instances, waterproof cast protectors. All of these items protect those of us in the medical field, but are available for at-home use as well. At Lindsey Medical Supply, we offer a range of personal protective equipment that will put your mind, and body, at ease.

Masks

Masks can be extremely effective in slowing the rate at which bacteria and disease spread. Although, there are different types of mask, all with varying levels of efficacy, they share the same concept: keeping your germs to yourself. When it comes to protecting yourself and others from viruses like SARS-CoV-2, it's imperative to wear masks recommended by the CDC. It's also worth mentioning that face shields are not as effective as respiratory protection and should not be used as a substitute for face masks.

Gloves

There are two main types of medical gloves: surgical and examination. Those in the medical profession tend to use this form of PPE most often, but gloves can be beneficial to have as they protect you from harmful bacteria and other germs. Gloves can also prevent the harmful microorganisms that may already be living on your hands from reaching other surfaces or people. If you're dealing with an open wound, whether that wound is on yourself or someone else, sterile medical gloves prevent infection from incurring. Although gloves may help prevent the spread of germs, they are no substitute for washing your hands. Make sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds after using the restroom, smoking, or treating an open wound.

Body Equipment

When you've broken a limb, depending on how it was broken, you may have to wear a cast. Protective equipment such as waterproof cast protectors can help prevent moisture from entering your cast and causing damage. PPE isn't solely used in the medical field. Many occupations can make use of protective equipment. On a construction site, workers wear hard hats to prevent the chance of significant head trauma. Eye protection can be useful when working with metal or wood and hearing protection can help keep your eardrums safe when extremely loud sounds are present.
